Discussions - Club Competitions

Hi All,

After the committee meeting this weekend, we discussed club compeitions and ideas for new ones, changes to the existing one, so to start the ball rolling here's an idea or two.

I personally think we can consider the glider duration competition a success, thanks to Martin and Phil for thrashing out the idea and starting it off, I believe the comp was a success because it was uncomplicated, ran throughtout the year, and it generated interest. OK so long flight durations are not everybodies cup of tea, and I think Malcolm has ideas to change the rules, perhaps to limit the power usage. Personally, I'd keep the existing comp in place and start another with limited power usage, that way we'd have two comps, serving different interest groups, discuss ?

  • I've muted this idea before, but how about a year long "Scale Competition", rules as follows:
    • Competition will based on photography (pictures of the plane).
    • Judging will be by the chairman, presentation at the AGM.
    • The plane must fly at Forton at the time the pictures are taken.
    • Not open to non-members (Given).
    • Entrance will be via website submissions.
  • Another idea, why not have an "SMFC Oscars of flying":
    • Most promising newcomer, chairman desides ?
      • Entries, valid for their first year of club membership.
      • Adds encouragement to our newest members.

Anyway, a couple of ideas, what do people think ?

Regards

Andy
